Murata launches high-precision and long-term stable agricultural specific CO2 sensor
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has commercialized a housed and cable-type CO2 sensor, the "IMG-CA0012-12." This new product is primarily designed for use in agricultural greenhouses, where it connects to environmental measurement equipment to deliver high-precision and stable monitoring of CO2 concentrations. By synchronizing with photosynthesis-promoting systems, it contributes to improving crop quality and increasing yields. Additionally, it enhances energy efficiency by enabling precise and timely CO2 supplementation. Mass production has already commenced at Murata's Hakui Plant, and the product is now available for supply.
In the agricultural sector, challenges such as declining yields and quality due to global warming, coupled with a shrinking workforce, have heightened the demand for higher crop output per unit area and improved product quality. CO2 enrichment technology, which enhances photosynthesis, is an effective solution to these issues. Furthermore, with recent surges in energy prices, there is growing emphasis on optimizing CO2 utilization based on environmental data measurements. As a result, high-precision, long-term stable CO2 sensors that require no calibration and are resistant to malfunctions play a critical role in photosynthesis enhancement systems.
The newly launched product incorporates Murata's proprietary calibration curve algorithm and an auto-calibration function based on a dual-wavelength (measurement and reference) NDIR (Non-Dispersive Infrared) method, eliminating the need for atmospheric calibration. This ensures high accuracy, long-term stability, and maintenance-free operation. Additionally, the housed and cable-type design enhances user convenience and ease of installation.

The CO2 sensor was installed in greenhouses for field evaluations—monitoring tomato cultivation for one year and rose cultivation for two years—to assess CO2 concentration characteristics and temperature performance.
The results, as shown in the accompanying graph, confirm minimal deviations in CO2 concentration even after prolonged use in real-world agricultural environments.

In agriculture, by accurately measuring CO2 levels in greenhouses and plant factories, Murata's CO2 sensor enables timely supplementation of CO2 for optimal photosynthesis, thereby supporting improvements in plant quality, yield increases, and energy savings.
